It’s a new year, and with the turning of the calendar page comes an annual tradition: new Year’s Resolutions! For lots of people, these resolutions center around health and well-being — like losing weight or working out more. but for others, 2017 brings an opportunity to see the world (or the country) through travel. Those experiences may be invaluable, but they come with a price tag. If you have resolved to travel a lot more in 2017, how can you make it happen on your budget?

The first step is to actually have a budget. This is a basic building block of all successful financial planning. After all, you can’t know how much you have to spend on fun “extras” like travel without first knowing how much you are bringing in and what your fixed monthly expenses are. once you have the budget part nailed down, you can step to the next step: hacking your finances to travel a lot more in 2017. While we can’t pledge you extra income or fewer expenses to make it happen, we can supply you with some basic ideas to make the holiday of your dreams a possibility.

Make the most of Your Spending

When it pertains to living expenses, there are some that simply can’t be avoided, including groceries, utilities and transportation costs. If you are already paying for these items, consider using a credit scores card that gives you travel perks such as cash back, air miles or rewards points. You can then translate these into a savings fund for your trip or to book a flight or hotel. Some cards give additional points for certain categories of purchases, which can help you build up your savings a lot more rapidly with double or triple points for grocery purchases or nights out at a restaurant.

Of course, there is a catch with this strategy: you must only be charging what you can actually afford, and you must be able to pay off your credit scores card bill each month. If you are overspending to try to get rewards, you’ll lose in the end. The interest and fees on credit scores cards will rapidly outweigh the benefits of airline miles. think of it this way: if you’re paying $150 each month (or more) in credit scores card interest, you could probably afford a plane ticket on just a few months of interest payments, while it may take over a year to earn enough miles to get a “free” ticket. If you decide to use a credit scores card to get rewards for travel, treat it with caution, and only charge what you can actually afford.

Slash Your Discretionary Spending

Over the years, lots of Americans have started to consider certain expenses to be necessary, whether it is a pricey cell phone bill, a daily cup of coffee or regular manicures. In reality, these items are not necessities (unless you require a smart phone for work) — they are luxuries that we have become accustomed to over time. If you are severe about travel in 2017, you can put away quite a bit of money by cutting out these types of expenses.

It’s easy to fall into excessive consumerism — picking up a few items because they’re inexpensive, taking advantage of special online deals for things that you don’t really need, or getting stuff impulsively because you always have a tiny computer in your pocket or borsa. limiting your expenditures can be a boon to both your financial health and your 2017 travel plans.

Start by taking a severe look at where your money is going. are there areas of spending that you can easily cut? focus on what you really need, and limit your spending to those basics. remember that a new tee shirt may seem like a great idea — but it won’t last as long as the memories of a fantastic trip. get what you need, and eliminate frivolous purchases. Soon, you’ll find yourself packing up your suitcase and heading out on an adventure.

Save, Save, Save

Funding a trip can seem like a daunting task, particularly if your goal is to go somewhere far-away or exotic. A holiday that costs thousands of dollars may seem like a pipe dream, but it is doable if you spend sensibly and start saving now.

When you are putting away money for travel, remember that it doesn’t have to be huge chunks of cash all at once. small savings — $50 per paycheck — can add up quickly. If you automatically save a set amount each month, saving will be easy and relatively painless. When you add your savings from minimized spending, you may find yourself on the trip of your dreams far sooner than you thought possible.

Travel can be expensive, but if you are smart about your finances, you’ll be able to take a lot more trips than you thought possible in 2017.

Posso dirti mille motivi per cui non sono un sub, tuttavia tutti si riducono a una cosa – paura. Once part of the Soviet Union, Georgia is a destination full of ancient history, spectacular landscapes, and plenty of surprises. It’s home to an award-winning red wine industry and the amazing capital of Tbilisi, which has a spectacular Old town and dynamic nightlife.

And to top it all off, the Caucasus Mountains offer amazing hiking and climbing for anybody wanting to explore the outdoors.

Georgia is worthy of all the praise it gets. It really is jam-packed with activities and attractions and is slowly starting to get on people’s radar. I loved my time there, and my only regret is that I didn’t have much more of it (but I guess that’s just a reason to go back, right?).

It may not be one of the most apparent places to travel, but if you want an eclectic destination that doesn’t have a lot of crowds and is safe, inexpensive, and filled with terrific food and drink, Georgia is it! I can’t recommend it enough.

Here’s a list of what I consider to be some of the best things to see and do in Georgia:

1. check out Tbilisi

Georgia’s capital is home to just over a million people and has started to acquire a credibility as a progressive city that provides an amazing blend of old and new.

Tbilisi is surrounded by hills, one of which is home to the ruins of Narikala Fortress, which dates back to the fourth century. Take the cable television automobile up for amazing views overlooking the city and the Mtkvari River. and the restored historic Old town is full of colorful window frames, beautiful balconies, ornate spiral staircases, and interesting alleyways to explore.

In contrast with this history, there are also lots of modern sights to see in Tbilisi, like the ultramodern bow-shaped peace Bridge and a growing number of trendy bars and restaurants. If you’re wanting to party the night away, be sure to check out Bassiani, one of the most popular nightclubs in town.

2. try a Sulfur Bath

Tbilisi is known for its sulfur baths, natural hot springs with minerals that are said to help with problems such as joint pain, arthritis, eczema, and dry skin. They have been a staple of the city because it was founded and are now a popular pastime for tourists and locals alike. (There are actually over two thousand mineral springs throughout Georgia, so you can have a medspa day outside Tbilisi as well.)

The baths underneath the Narikala Fortress are the easiest place to try this popular Georgian tradition; you can also get a conventional scrub and massage. The baths are easy to spot: they have large brick domes rising out of the ground that cover the healing waters.

Expect to pay at least 50 GEL (Georgian lari) ($17 USD) for a budget bathhouse or 100 GEL ($34 USD) for a nicer one.

3. The Chronicle of Georgia

Just outside Tbilisi, the Chronicle of Georgia is made up of 16 huge pillars and columns with carved images that illustrate the nation’s history, each of which is over 30 meters tall! Some people call this “Georgia’s Stonehenge,” but there’s nothing ancient or mystical about it — the memorial was built in 1985 by a Georgian sculptor (although it was never finished).

It’s easy to reach the Chronicle by taking the metro and then walking a short distance. In addition to seeing this unusual monument (which is free), you’ll also get a stunning view over the city and the Tbilisi Sea.

4. See Mtskheta

Mtskheta was an ancient capital of Georgia and today is known as the religious center of the country. It’s about a half-hour north of Tbilisi and is home to historic churches and stunning buildings from the middle Ages (some of them are UNESCO world Heritage sites as well). The entire city was also declared a holy City by the Georgian Orthodox Church in 2014.

One of the best things to do in Mtskheta is to go up to Jvari Monastery on the hilltop, many well-known for being where Christianity was declared the official religion in 319 CE. The monastery itself was built in the sixth century and has survived nearly unchanged because then. From here you’ll be treated to spectacular views over the town and the two rivers that meet at Mtskheta.

Also, don’t miss a check out to the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral (which dates to the 11th century) and the fourth-century Samtavro Monastery.

5. eat Khachapuri

There are all kinds of conventional Georgian foods you can try, but the one that all visitors seem to leave Georgia raving about is khachapuri. It’s essentially a cheesy bread that can come with various toppings and in various shapes, in some cases looking a bit like a pizza and other times much more like a big bread roll.

Every region of Georgia has its own version, but probably the most well-known is Adjarian khachapuri. It comes in a kind of boat shape and is first filled with cheese and then topped with an egg.

Another popular food you’ll want to try is kudari, which is a large leavened bread pocket stuffed with meat(di solito maiale o agnello) e verdure.

6. Dai un’occhiata al monastero di Vadrzia Cave

Il monastero di Vadrzia Cave si trova vicino a Aspindza nel sud della Georgia, a circa quattro ore da Tbilisi in auto. È uno dei monasteri più noti di tutto il paese. 9. Vai a fare escursioni o trekking

Se ti piace fare escursioni o trekking, allora adorerai la Georgia. Le montagne del Caucaso si estendono dal Mar Nero al Mar Caspio – oltre 1.000 km – quindi ci sono molte possibilità.

Located near the border with Azerbaijan, this is a Georgian Orthodox complex that dates back to the sixth century. here you’ll find hundreds of small rooms, small chapels, churches, and monastic living quarters carved out of the rock face.

The monastery survived incursions from the Mongols and Persians but was shut down under Soviet guideline and used for military training (which caused a lot of damage to the buildings).

Today, you can check out the complex on a day trip from Tbilisi. The journey takes around three hours by bus and bus tickets cost 25 GEL ($9 USD).

14. check out Gori

Gori is the hometown of Joseph Stalin, the brutal Soviet leader. located 90 minutes from Tbilisi, the city is home to the popular Stalin Museum, which has lots of artifacts (including the wooden hut where he was born) and information about his life — all of it whitewashed and biased, of course.

Here you’ll also find a world war II museum that focuses on the achievements of the Red Army, as well as Gori Fortress, a citadel that dates back to the 17th century and provides a panoramic view of the region.

Although it’s close enough for a day trip from Tbilisi, you can stay in this small city of just 50,000 for a day or two if you want to get away from the crowds.

15. get Outdoors in Svaneti

This is one of the most stunning regions in the entire country. tucked away in the northwestern corner of Georgia, you’ll find numerous tiny villages and amazing hiking here. There are also several UNESCO heritage sites in the area, including watchtowers that date back to the 12th century. You’ll also be completely enveloped by the Caucasus Mountains, which offer both a picturesque backdrop and spectacular views.

Stay in Mestia, a tiny village of fewer than 2,000 people, and head out on foot or by automobile to explore the region. You’ll also find some of the best cheese in the country, made by conventional methods kept alive by the Svans (an ethnic subgroup). The region is one of the most remote areas in Georgia — see it before the tourists arrive.

This list just scratches the surface when it concerns the amazing things to see and do that Georgia has to offer. There are dozens much more historical sites, monasteries, caves, and castles to see and a whole lot much more spectacular landscapes to explore. (And the country is quite safe too.)

Whether you just have a few days to delight in Tbilisi and its surroundings or a couple of weeks to cover much more of rural Georgia too, you are not going to be disappointed!

New Boracay travel Guide

It was the midweek of an off-peak season. Usually, times like this, I would expect to have the beach all to myself. but this was not an common beach. This was Boracay. and in Boracay, even a slow day is roaring.

Boracay has always been the flagship beach destination of the Philippines. It has topped lots of lists of the greatest beaches in the world, compiled by international travel magazines. All this lovin’ from local and foreign press and backpackers has been drawing swarms and swarms of tourists. What used to be an unspoiled sleepy village transformed into an overdeveloped party island. Even upscale hotels and restaurants have found their way to the island, attracting luxury travelers. Yet, it remains friendly to the budget-conscious.

How to get to Boracay

Located off the northwestern coast of Aklan, Boracay Island is very easily accessible to the beach-going public. If you’re coming from Manila, flying is the best option. All major airlines fly to either of them.

Two airports serve Boracay-bound passengers. Each airport has pros and cons.

Caticlan airport and Kalibo Airport

Kalibo is farther, requiring around 2 hours of travel time, but fares are much cheaper.

Caticlan is closer, 15 minutes away, but fares are way a lot more expensive.

Board the boat or ferry to the island.

You will dock at either Cagban or Tambisaan Port. Either way, there are tricycles waiting here that can take you to your hotel. If your hotel is in the White beach Area, cost is P100 per ride.

If you’re coming from Caticlan airport, you can take a tricycle to the port. You can also walk; it must take around 10 minutes.

While Boracay has some of the most expensive hotels in the country, you will also find the other end of the spectrum here. Hostels and guesthouses are not the evident choice to the common tourist. but if you’re not choosy and you’re ready to let go of the aircon and other amenities, you’ll be shocked by the number of options awaiting indiscriminate travelers.

Hostels. fan rooms can be booked for around P500 during off-peak. A bed in a dorm costs as low as P300 per night. Agoda is a good place to start trying to find budget-friendly hostels.

I stayed once at Frendz resort at station 1 for P500 per night (Dorm room), and it was a pretty pleasurable experience. Not beachfront but close enough. just a bed and a fan, but the backpacker vibe made up for it. I always like places where I could meet other travelers and make friends.

Budget hotels and Guesthouses. If hostels aren’t your thing, budget hotels and guesthouses are also a good choice. Agoda have a rich selection of hotels.

I had a pleasure of staying at Dakong Amihan Home, and I had a terrific time. rates are P1,750 per room (off-peak, good for 2 pax). Again, not beachfront but close to lots of crucial attractions in the island. read my full review here –> Dakong Amihan

Where to eat in Boracay

Most beachfront restaurants are very costly. even the P300-buffets along White beach sound good, but they taste disappointing. There are mid-range restos farther from the beach that may be worth a try. but if you’re really concerned about the prices, your best bet are the turo-turo carinderias along the main road and inner alleys. P60 must already get you a respectable rice meal.

One popular food place is D’Talipapa, where you can shop for fresh ingredients (seafood!) and have one of the surrounding eateries prepare them the way you like it for a fee. This is optimal for groups!

If the place you are staying in allows you to cook or prepare food yourself, pay a check out to Talipapa Bukid at station 3 for the ingredients!
